Going into this project, I was not as versed as I should have been on the situation about the rhino situation besides the fact that poaching is the cause for the rapid deaths and decrease in rhino populations. This project allowed me to dive deeper into the rhino situation as well as gain a new perspective on the initiative. I realised that in school, the rhino situation is briefly mentioned in terms of the threat of rhino’s populations and poaching but individuals such as myself lack the in-depth knowledge that will inspire learners to take initiative and support willingly.
In other words, despite the fact that there are other topics that are equally important such as global warming, climate change, resource conservation etc., however, learners and the school community are exposed to the nature of these situations on a daily basis and through the curriculum however the rhino situation is hardly explored as frequently hence I have decided to pursue this topic. Throughout this task I have gained a better understanding of Rhinos and their importance to the ecosystem. I realized that initially when I thought of ideas, I didn't contemplate exploring this topic. As I had to cooperate with the school and their needs, I was inclined to follow their plans with the Eco-club which ultimately, I was not as open at first to. Mainly because I realized I did have much knowledge of issue regarding Rhinos.

As I planned, brainstormed and researched as much as I could to get updated on the Rhino situation, I was able to gain a new perspective. This project allowed me personally challenge myself and allowed me to see things in a new light. At the beginning I didn't believe that this theme would be appropriate or as serious until I took a chance on it - which I am glad. Now I have a better grip on the Rhino situation and am highly motivated to pursue this theme in the future.
I have changed in the sense that I realize that anything can happen and your interests can change. I have become more resilient in the sense that I was able to adapt to the school in terms of what they view as important (Eco-club and Rhino awareness).
Initially I was planning the project with the main objective of getting the immediate and external school community to invest financially to rhino awareness campaigns and encourage their support financially. However, the school already has a partnership with the Project Rhino. This is also not a sustainable idea as most are not as open to support monetarily therefore this is not a long-term solution therefore, I have decided to take another route to this Rhino awareness by develop “All About Rhi-Knows”. Since the school has an Eco-Club, my project was in the sense an addition to their club ideas.

This initiative strives to get the school community more versed in the Rhino situation holistically by focusing on information about what rhinos are, their habitat, the threats on their dwindling populations as well as their importance to the environment. This is based on the idea that I believe once learners are more versed and knowledgeable about the Rhinos and their situation – it will inspire learners to me more active in their support rather than being monetary. I want learners to be internally motivated to protect and conserve these animals by encouraging the school community to be passionate and support the rhino struggle in the long term. If learners know more about Rhinos (All about Rhi-Know project), they will be more emotionally inclined to save them and preserve them in the future.

The school will be able to re-use and edit my presentations relating to all the information about rhinos, and they will be able to edit and create their own activities to reinforce the knowledge in presentations using the game-based learning software (Blooket). I believe that the purpose of the project is sustainable considering it is not based on money but rather intangible ideas such as passionate protectors of Rhinos that take more initiative when tackling the Rhino situation. The crosswords and word searches are also recyclable and easy to develop – so the school can use my ideas sustainably in the future for their Eco-Club.
